The PI of Chasing Likes, Dr Niklas Ihssen, has commented on the neuroscience behind a recent viral meme ‘the saxophones are getting louder’.
The meme describes the use of specific saxophone music (taken from 1991 film ‘Boyz n the hood’), which is typically played over a video of some unfolding catastrophe.
“We love to be part of a trend,” said Dr Ihssen. “We love to be similar to others in some ways, even though we also like our individuality, but seeing and being part of a big group of people who think the same way, then you also like it.
“This contribution to something huge, feeling part of that community, that just helps us to overcome our fear of being alone in the world in a way.”
